Thank you for booking your first appointment.

I work at my home at 31 Welland Way, Deeping St James Peterborough PE6 8QE (if you don’t know the area, I suggest you use Google maps and not a satnav, as satnav takes people elsewhere).

Please feel free to park on the drive and if you arrive a bit earlier than your appt time, then take a few minutes to yourself and then knock at the appt time. (If you knock early, I may not hear you if I am out the back).

Dog In Sessions

In case I haven't mentioned it to you already, there is a Labrador Retriever in therapy sessions and he is training to be a therapy dog.  He is 12 months old as of March 2022 and sleeps through sessions after a minute to settle. He is a little lively when you first arrive.

About Sessions

Within any session you may wish to disclose a particular issue, thought, feeling, situation, incident or dream or use the time to be quiet and reflect. Sessions are not structured in a particular way but are facilitated so that you are encouraged to use the time to bring forward areas for exploration whatever feels priority at any given time.  Session arrangements are usually open ended but if you prefer we can arrange a set of sessions at the start.

As your Psychotherapist I am committed to you and will give you the time and space to use my expertise, skills and attention to help and support you in your endeavours.

Ethical Framework

I am a member of the National Counselling Society and I adhere to their Ethical Framework of Good Practice and complaints procedure.  Please ask if you would like more information on this.

Confidentiality Policy

Confidentiality Policy is a vital aspect of the counselling process.  Everything that is dicussed in the counselling session is kept in the strictest confidence and this confidentiality applies to any records in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations. All Counsellors are required to undertake Supervision and will take any relevant issues from their counselling work into Supervision where your anonyminity is maintained.  In exceptional circumstances confidenitality may be broked and these circumstances can include:

  • Where you give concent for the confidene to be broken, for instance if you are partaking in psychiatric assessment or are wishing multi-agency involvement.
  • Where I feel it is appropriate to involve other professionals such as your GP in circumstances where you or a third party is at risk.
  • In extreme cases where I am legally required to break confidentiality by law such as acts of terrorism, abuse of a child or vulnerable adult.

Contact Outside of Sessions

Contact outside of sessions whould be limited to practical arrangements such as discussing appointment times.  These can be by email, text, whatsapp, telephone or Facebook Messenger.   Counselling and Psychotherapy service is not an emergency service.  If you are worried about your wellbeing or the wellbeing of someone else, please ocntact your GP, 111 Service, the emergency services or if you are feeling suicidal ring The Samaritans on 116 123.

In certain circumstances, as part of the therapy process, we may mutually agree to communicate about a particular issue, thoughts or reflections using text or email or may share useful articles that might be relevant to our work.

Social Media

I am not able to accept social media connection requests as this can compromise confidentiality.

Time in Therapy

At the start we may agree a fixed number of sessions or, more usually the number of sessions will be open ended. When you feel ready to end our sessions, it is recommended this is mentioned 2-3 sessions beforehand so that we can use the opportunity to explore feelings around leaving and summarise the work we have done and what might be outstanding. The aim of this is so that you leave with full awareness of where you are at and with a positive feeling of closure.

Covid In-session Precautions

  • Windows will remain open during session, some people bring a blanket for cold day.
  • During session, we will be sat 2 meters apart.
  • I no longer offer hot drinks but do now provide water.
