Psychological and emotional abuse always comes with physical abuse and violence but often it does not involve physical abuse and this makes it harder to identify it
It can be quite hard to recognise if you are experiencing this when you are in it but can become clear very quickly in therapy. Signs of psychological abuse can present as similar symptoms of anxiety, depression or stress. Feelings about your sense of worth will be low and confusion is common. Not quite knowing how you feel with fluctuating feelings if also common.
In therapy we would explore what is going on for you and how to change it and how to develop the skills to change it and prevent it from happening in future relationships. It is very often an empowering experience to do this work in therapy.
